Try something new today, turn up your sounds system with Anita Katakkar’s debut CD entitled “Rakkatak” plugged in and hold onto your bandhas!
Anita has been playing the tabla since 1994, studying the tabla with Toronto based composer and musician Ritesh Das and more recently, with the generous support of the Ontario Arts Council she travelled to India during December 2010 and January 2011 to study with Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri. Anita takes the classic sounds of the tabla and weaves an electronic soundscape that will enhance a vigurous vinyasa practice to a slow restorative sequence.
Anita has recorded, performed and toured with the Toronto Tabla Ensemble, toured nationally with the Tea Party and internationally with Jeff Martin. NXNE 2010 curator Lisa Patterson described Anita Katakkar’s sound as: “tabla soaked electronica.”
Anita can also be found at Octopus Garden Holistic Yoga Centre, Friday’s at 630pm to 8pm for an extra special Level 1-2 class performing live.
Yogahappening is crossing their fingers to collaborate on a special outdoor class with Anita this summer.
